So now having become a Dragon Quest lover *I won’t say fan because I’ve only beaten Rocket slime 100% and only five hours into 8 and 9 and only just started Swords but with lover I can get away with saying I love aspects of the lore, soundtracks, designs, etc. just like I do with SMT* and I was…
I can get why you would compare DQ Monsters with SMT but why compare Etrian Odyssey to DQ? I don’t know Etrian Odyssey nearly as well as I know DQ but I just don’t see it.
Etrian Odyssey has the same combat system the original DQ games had where it’s first person which went all the way through to 8 in a way and the class system in the original EO even has similarities to DQ 3, but EO4 has changed it to a system that could work with the one found in DQ 6 much better. The exploration I grant you are not the same, but maybe a change of pace for either Atlus or DQ would be refreshing for everyone involved.
That might actually work better than I thought. Thinking more about it, games like 7th Dragon have pretty much blended the two already and I found that game enjoyable for the most part. I highly doubt that’s what DQ XI will be but hopefully a future title does this.
